Display Challenge Badges on Profile - Virtual Trophy Case

Charlie Woodall
suggested this on September 25, 2013, 3:48 AM

Starting to accumulate a few badges from various Running & Cycling challenges.

Why aren't these displayed on the main user profile page? Would look good on the right hand side somewhere I think...

Add me as another person disappointed in the implementation of the Trophy Cabinet. I have no issue with it being a premium function (and I'm not a premium member - yet), but the fact that you only get to see the badge in your cabinet if you complete the whole challenge and not the intermediate badges is just really bizarre. Getting to the 25% of most of these challenges is the most I can do given that I only ride/run at weekends, so this means that even if I was a premium member, my cabinet would permanently remain empty, unless of course I lost my job / won the lottery and could ride as much as I wanted to every day of the week!

There is no consistency in the trophy case. MTS show for some people but not for others - all at random markers? I also recently had a badge appear for the Rapha Segment Challenge and then that disappeared? What is that about? Seriously seriously confusing - bad UX

I agree with the above comment the Monthly Training Series (MTS)  on a bike will only show if you ride 1250Km! (777 miles). I will never have that much time to ride in one month. It would be better if the monthly challenges just showed when you hit a new high point so if you have only ever ridden 250km a month show the 250 badges if you then ride 500km then the 500km shows and the 250km badges drop off. Then there is a real challenge to keep up the higher target. Just a thought.

+1 for Laura Jenkins comment I would like to see my digital badge for hitting the mile markers in challenges- for me it is an achievement to get to 40km a month even if for others they somehow manage this in a day so hit the end point of 200km! Glad Stava have finally made the digital badges viewable though, as otherwise there is no real kudos for finishing the challenge.

http://veloviewer.com

is not a different MapMyWhatever type site but an addition to Strava that displays all your stuff in a much more comprehensible way.
It was available ages ago. It was developed by one developer.

What is up with Strava development? Do the developers and the management not get on? Is there a big wall inside the Strava office? Are the 'developers' in fact cyclists learning how to write php?

I'm glad to see it's implemented but I'm a little disappointed that partially completed challenges aren't included. Any time you get a badge it should be added, even if it's just for 25% completion. Why bother making different coloured badges for different percentages completed, I know some of us who are maybe less fit are just as proud as their 50% elevation and distance challenges

+1 on Mark K's comment
-1 on Georges ignorant rant
+1 for having badges visible to everyone who completed a challenge not just those egotistical enough to pay just to show off (lol that was tongue in cheek trying to put balance to Georges ignorant and rude comment.. sorry to other premium member I know you do it for better reasons).

George, here is why it should be generally available not just premium. There is a large number of people who get recruited into using strava by completing challenges with friends and relatives. That is free publicity and i personally have recruited over a dozen people. If they are hardcore they will discover segments and other features and go on to be premium members often not for any additional benefit but just to give back as I did. They will also do their part and recruit people to do challenges with them. Then they will realise that instead being able to reflect on challenges completed they just disappear. their enthusiasm for doing challenges through strava wanes and they then recruit people to do challenges with them through other services as i do.

So I reiterate the question already asked by Mark K, as a marketer, a software developer and a **premium** member .. "why, from a purely commercial perspective, do Strava make this very cheap feature premium only, thereby killing off much of the additional goodwill and recruiting that challenges could otherwise generate when they have much better options available? (latest 3 badges free, more is premium, etc).

I also ask my own question .. as a premium member, how do I turn this feature off because I am embarrassed that many of those who did challenges with me have to see my badges and nobody can see theirs?

Mark K, I'm not a Strava Employee, but I'll venture a guess... Sometimes when people provide a service to you, and they give you a ton of stuff for free, once in a while they may provide something that you have to pay for... The idea here is not to get mad and say things like "i need your justification why you aren't handing over your hard work for free", but more so "how can I help these people who have provided such a wonderful service(most of which is free) continue to develop new crap, maybe i should pay them, or just shut up and accept what they give me, because you know, it's fricken free"

so this seems to have been implemented...but its a premium feature only?
...any justification for it not being available to all users?

Hurrah. Look forward to that addition. Wonder if Strava will start to compete with veloviewer for depth of statistical analysis or stay away from that kind of stuff.

This feature was first request (to my knowledge) in July 13, 2012 by Kenneth Trueman in another suggestion ticket (https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/21082367) and since then many many people have supported the idea of a showcase for challenges completed and pleaded for it. I did not realise this separate suggestion ticket existed until today I was referred to it in the comments of that other suggestion ticket.

In Jan 2013 I tried to have a separate ticket raised and after a lot of back and forth was told I could not have a ticket raised for others to vote on it.
Ultimately I was told the following:

------

Hello-
Sorry I wasn't clear... There IS a trophy case - for challenges - in the pipeline... But I'm not sure when it will be rolled out.
Thanks for your patience.

------

Realising I could not see challenges completed was the single reason I downgraded from premium. I was happy to pay for premium to support Strava because it was such a good service, but when I realised my challenges (why I got into Strava in the first place) would not be visible to myself or the people I was doing the challenges with (supporting each other) after only a short time I lost interest in challenges and Strava and now use alternatives (there are many). This single feature would get me back.

Maybe Strava could implement this request by 13 July 2014 .. 2 years after it was first raised!!

It would be great if the badges could be stored in each users profile somewhere and also as downloadable image files that could be used as Facebook, Twitter or even Strava profile images.

What's the point of the badges is I can't show them off to all my friends to prove how much better I am than them? The badges are the only reason I do the challenges. ;)

Really like Jim Newton's idea.

A map of all your rides would be great, not like the heatmap, but one where you could zoom in and select rides off the map as an alternative to searching by month/week.

Agreed - Even if they showed up with your KOM's / CR's good to be able to look back and see you're achievements - might also be cool if people were awarded state flags or country flags for each state / country they've ridden in.
