Add a Stand Up Paddleboard activity type to Strava!
Feel free to check my list in here http://essayjedii.com/write-my-essay
Wonder if SUP activities (or other types of activities) will be listed soon in training log screen too.
Currently the training log screen only shows cycling / running / triathlon type of activities, which is a bit limited.
Thanks for your time and the great work with Strava.
Thanks Elle, I created a new Feature Suggestion - https://strava.zendesk.com/entries/58014550
@Nik - Would you be able to create a new Feature Suggestion post to include Splits for SUPs? That will be the best way to track the feedback. This Feature Suggestion has already been marked as done!
Keep me posted on the issues with Segments - as Nik says, they seem to be working. However, it would be nice if the segment page designated what activity type it was for... I'll see what we can do.
Also, we do have fairly tight requirements for a segment match, as I'm guessing we use the same thresholds as we do for cycling.
I did notice that SEGMENTS don't appear on the top left menu (under OVERVIEW) like they do for running. For SUP they appear in the OVERVIEW, at the bottom - under the map and the incredibly useful elevation graph (sarcasm required because elevation is pretty meaningless when paddle boarding especially on the ocean or a lake).
I didn't do anything special to get segments to work, they just do, see http://www.strava.com/activities/208003585
It seems to handle a bit of variation, although I do tend to stick to a very similar path since it is typically wind/current favored. I haven't really tested the bounds of this variation, but as you can see I have done a lot of paddles on the same course and it always seems to pick up the segments.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
How are you getting segments to work? I've SUP'd and defined segments on the website, but I can't seem to get them to recognize when i go over the same route on subsequent paddles.
By way of background, I've tried to set a 1.2 mile segment on a stretch of canal/pond that is about 80 yards wide in places -- I generally try to take the direct route, but there's certainly some variation by as much as 10-20 yards in my route, which maybe is the reason the segments aren't picking up? (And the website still doesn't seem to show SUP segments unless I'm missing it)
Also, on a related note, is it possible to set a segment with a start and end "gate", so that the exact route doesn't matter? Seems this would work well for SUP (and other water sports?) where the current / wind / tide / etc. means you're not likely to take the EXACT same route.
I like the progress that has been made to support SUP as an activity type. I even see that I can select it on the iPhone before uploading...
However, I'd like to ask that SUP shows the PACE (i.e. minutes/mile) next to DISTANCE and MOVING TIME. It currently shows ELEVATION which makes no sense since water is generally very flat and is almost always 0.
It would also be great to see the SPLITS for each mile.
I know that all of this data is there since I can see it when the activity type is set to RUN. The problem is other people are leaving their activities set to RUN so they can see this information and this means they are not included in SEGMENTS (which do now work for SUP).
Thanks for everything Elle
@Nik, yes that is true that SUP activities won't show segments. So sorry!
@Gerry - both are added, but only on the website at this time. Coming soon to the mobile app!
(You can still record with the mobile app and change the activity types on the website)
@Tania, I guess we don't have this one yet.
When is STrava going to add paddle boarding as a sport on the choices! Come on peeps!
could we add tennis ? id love to track on strava how often i train at tennis and the distances over matches.
Is it possible to add Orienterring ? It is much different than running, trailing or hiking.
Thank's a lot.
There are no longer "segments" when I change the activity type to Stand Up Paddling? Might as well go back to running on water...
What about also adding board type / length - similar to how you have running shoes? The type of board plays a big role in how fast you can go and it would certainly add more meaning the leaderboards.
Keep up the good work.
Hi folks -
The day has arrived. On the website (coming soon to mobile apps) you will now see the options to classify activities for:
Stand Up Paddling
One of the easiest ways to create a new file in windows is by right clicking on the desktop, moving the mouse cursor to new and selecting the desired file type from the context menu that appears to the right of the cursor. You can also create a new file with the assistance of virtually every program installed on windows through each program's interface.
The site has aspects similar to other sites like map myride or ride withgps. The basic service is free but there is an optional pay component to gain access to additional statistical detail like age and weight. Both amateur and professional members can be found as members.
Please add kayaking or paddling. thank you
Predominantly Inattentive is similar to the other subtypes of except that it is characterized primarily by inattentive concentration or a deficit of sustained attention, such as procrastination, hesitation, and forgetfulness it differs in having fewer or no typical symptoms of hyperactivity or impulsiveness.

Agree! Went for a SUP session this morning... http://www.strava.com/activities/138822367
Would have loved to be able to add SUP to the workout.
I've been using Strava for land paddling. SUP would be close enough for my liking.
You provide windsurfing and kitesurfing so it should be easy to add SUP since there many more paddleboarders then wind or kite surfing.
SUP and kayaking would great!
SUP & Kayaking categories!
Please add SUP.
Please add "surf" to the list of activities.
Please add a SUP activity thanks
please add SUP
Say YES to paddle boarding being included on Strava! much appreciated. thanks
Would be much appreciated if there was a paddling activity for strava.Thanx
Please make it broader than just SUP - for us that like to sit down while we workout! Thx
Thanks for your input - could you define soon - i have a lot to do with software development and soon is an interesting amount of time.:)
I absolutely love using Strava! It is amazing and you guys have done a great job with it! Please add a SUP or paddle option! I paddle twice a day and it would be great to call it SUP instead of Windsurfing which mixes in with my windsurf sessions. That would be awesome!!!
We have some new activity types in the works. SUP may be coming soon!
Attention Strava management, this is very simple. Add SUP, kayaking and everything people want added. Also add a custom function so people can add their own workout. EG. Dragging a tire in the sand.
I am using workout for my paddling too, which isn't ideal. Adding Paddling or Paddlesport would be great. I paddle a mix of sea kayak, waka ama (OC1 and OC6) as well as SUP so either a generic paddle activity type or adding Waka ama to the paddling list would make me happy : )
Paddlesport sounds like a great idea. I'm using 'workout' to track the ocean ski paddles - but would like a dedicated activity for paddling/kayaking/SUP. Helps to start some more competition on the water!
Need a paddleboard activity with all the features of run/ride.
Yes please +++++
I currently upload all my paddles with the Rides activity type. I used to upload as Workouts, but you get none of the Ride or Running features (ie heat maps, Activity summaries on profile etc),.
It's a nasty hack/workaround and I'd love to see another Paddling main type (with different categories like bikes for Ride for SUP, Kayak, SurfSki, etc) so these can be matched off apples vs apples against other paddlers...
We want SUP!
And Surf Ski please
I used the "swim" feature to record my SUP paddle this morning. Looks like I am a VERY fast swimmer! Add SUP!
I agree! Here is a SUP we did the other day on the South Platte in Denver. http://app.strava.com/activities/73661632
I look forward to adding some interesting river, lake and ocean trips including the Grand Canyon. Human powered paddlesports are some of the best fitness exercises out there. Strava, please add a paddlesports!
I have been using 'windsurf' because of the board but Matt is probably more on the money with 'workout'.
Does anyone know id the bluetooth heart rate monitor would die if it was submerged?
Agreed - currently just use the "workout" type to track this.
Yes I would like to see a paddlesports generic activity at a minumum, or a SUP as one of many paddlesports.
Paddle sports with a selection process akin to the bike one so you can see how each Board/Craft compares
All paddlesports should be included--at least in a paddlers version if not with separate detail.
The "Paddlesport" entry is probably the best idea. Ideally you'd have Paddleboard and SUP separately, but i suppose you could end up breaking it down too much.
Yes please, Add a Paddlesport entry. That would add a lot of sport junkies to Strava, and that would allow my outrigging club to finally enter the friendly competition mode that i have already with my cycling friends!
I do a lot of kayaking ... why isn't that in the list? Shouldn't you be able to add your items to the list? I'm sure there are lots of other things people would want to add.
Yes, please add an SUP or "Paddlesports" entry. Strava would be ideal for tracking this sort of activity
What I think would be more useful here is that there is the ability to add custom types e.g. SUP, white water kayaking, sprint, marathon etc ...
